There are a number of planetary bodies to consider, and their houses and aspects create more layers to examine, but for the purposes of this discussion, we’re just going to focus on the signs themselves. What people commonly refer to as their “sign” is specifically their Sun Sign, or the sign (slice of the sky pie) that the sun was located in when you were born. Where each of the planetary bodies is located in the sky at the moment of your birth determines your birth chart, which influences how you will view and navigate the world, what will motivate and challenge you, and how your interior self will be influenced throughout your life. If you’re not, or are a bit rusty, here’s a quick refresher: there are twelve signs of the zodiac, that represent twelve sections of the sky (on a circular map, divided into twelve equal slices).

For fans of Nickelodeon’s 2005-2008 animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, one of the greatest appeals of the show lies in the separation of the nations by the four elements, and the mystical- and martial-arts-based powers known as “bending.” Like Meyers-Briggs, enneagram tests, love languages, Harry Potter houses, and any Buzzfeed quiz, identifying which type of “bender” you are says a lot about your personality: Air Benders are intellectual and peaceful, Earth Benders stable and hardworking, Water Benders are sensitive and intuitive, and Fire Benders are passionate and aggressive.
